Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers about visiting Kidney Hypertension Clinic.

What insurance do you accept?

We accept Medicare and most major insurance plans. Because coverage and network participation vary by plan, please call us at (770) 962-1231 and we'll confirm whether we're in-network for your specific plan before your visit.

Which hospitals do you cover?

Our nephrologists are affiliated with several area hospitals, including Northside Hospital Gwinnett, Northside Hospital Duluth, and Eastside Medical Center. To confirm coverage at a specific hospital, please call us at (770) 962-1231.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We do our best to see new patients quickly, often within a few days, and we prioritize urgent referrals. Call (770) 962-1231, text (770) 752-2828, or use the form below, and our team will find you the soonest available visit near you.

What is a nephrologist?

A nephrologist is a physician who specializes in the care of the kidneys, diagnosing and treating kidney disease, high blood pressure, dialysis needs, and disorders of the body's fluids, electrolytes, and minerals.

What conditions do you treat?

Our team treats chronic kidney disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes-related kidney care, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, electrolyte and mineral imbalances, and more. We also offer remote patient monitoring and chronic care management.

Do I need a referral to be seen?

Some insurance plans require a referral from your primary care provider to see a specialist, and others do not. We recommend checking with your insurer, and our team is happy to help guide you through the process.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of your current medications, and any recent lab results or records from your referring physician. Arriving a few minutes early helps us get you checked in smoothly.

Where are your offices located?

We have eight offices across metro Atlanta and Northeast Georgia: Lawrenceville (main office), Duluth, Norcross, Snellville, Winder, Monroe, Athens, and Sugar Hill.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Call us at (770) 962-1231, text (770) 752-2828, or use the contact form below. Our team will help you find the next available visit at a location near you.

I need to cancel my appointment, is there a fee?

We understand that life happens. Please give us as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. A $50 cancellation or no-show fee applies when an appointment is cancelled 48 hours or less before the scheduled time. To cancel or reschedule, call your office or (770) 962-1231.

Why do I need a follow-up visit to review my lab results?

Lab results are only part of the picture. A follow-up visit lets your physician interpret your results in the context of your overall health, explain what they mean, adjust your medications or treatment plan if needed, and answer your questions, so you leave with a clear plan, not just numbers.

What does it mean to have a fasting lab?

A fasting lab means you should not eat or drink anything except water for a set time before your blood draw, usually 8 to 12 hours. Keep taking your regular medications with water unless your provider tells you otherwise. Fasting helps ensure accurate results for tests such as glucose and cholesterol.

How do I complete a 24-hour urine collection?
  1. When you wake up, empty your bladder into the toilet (do not save this first sample) and write down the time.
  2. For the next 24 hours, collect all of your urine in the container provided.
  3. Keep the container refrigerated or on ice throughout the collection.
  4. Exactly 24 hours after you started, the same time the next morning, empty your bladder one last time into the container.
  5. Seal the container, label it with your name and the start and end times, and return it to the lab or office as directed.
I have billing questions, who do I contact?

For billing questions, please call our main line at (770) 962-1231 and ask for the billing department. Our team will be glad to help with statements, insurance, and payments.
